Spell Bags
The concept of spell Bags has been around for as long as Magick itself. Gris Gris bags, mojo bags, medicine pouches, and so on have been a staple of various Magickal traditions. Even the show Supernatural hits on this concept in their typical fashion of "10% right, 90% drama". But what are they?
Well, that depends on the type of bag and the tradition. But generally speaking, they are a small bag that contains items of various sympathies that are combined to have an effect. Traditionally speaking, they are also awakened in some manner. It is also typical to contain items from all three kingdoms: herbal, mineral, and zoological. However, this isn't always necessary.
How do you use a spell bag? Again, this depends on the nature of it, but they can be carried in your pocket, placed in your home, or even placed at an enemy's home to bring down a curse. They are also generally fed with alcohol, water, or oil to keep the Magick alive.
Some examples of bags include:
Personal protection: carried as a shield from harm and to direct you away from dangerous situations
Lucky Hand: these are carried by gamblers to increase their luck in games of chance
Love drawing: carried when you want to attract love
Money drawing: carried when you want to attract wealth, particularly useful for business owners
Hexing bag: Either placed on the property or person of an enemy or carried and used as a target for curses against a particular enemy
Psychic Development: carried by those looking to enhance their psychic abilities
There are a myriad of formulas out there, and ways to build your bag, but the general rules I follow are:
7 ingredients: one main talisman that represents the main focus of the bag, 6 ingredients that hit nuanced circumstances or add into the main focus
Color code the bag to the working being done
Moon phases: full and waning moons are good for bags to repel or lessen, new and waxing moons are good for bags that attract
Activation: nothing fancy, just a simple statement of intent and a bit of energy
Daily feeding: always give your bag a few drops of water, alcohol, or appropriate oil to keep it alive
And that's it! They are very simple to make and use, and can yield powerful results. I have made many of these by combining traditional techniques with shamanic methods, and the results are tremendous. So experiment, play around, and have fun. I'll be sprinkling some of these formulas into my discord server over the next while, so if you're interested in my exact method, join us and take notes!
