Making Peace with the Land
One of the most underappreciated aspects of sorcery is the fact that you don't have to only work with spirits from grimoire. There are spirits everywhere, all around us, and we can drive great benefit simply by working with the ones around our home. By the same token, these spirits are also the ones that can cause us great grief. A lot of land spirits tend to not enjoy humans moving into their areas, so they can cause issues if we don't mend those bridges. But once you've made allies of them, they can be greater assets than any talisman or empowerment. So how do we do this?
Start small. Go out into your local area and introduce yourself to the local spirits. This doesn't have to be a lengthy oration by any means, it can be as simple as "hail, spirits of the earth, air, trees, and stones! Thank you for sharing your space with me, and let us be friends now and forever." Or whatever comes to mind- the point is not saying the right words, but making a good impression. Once you've announced yourself, make some offerings. Pour some water over tree roots, set out food for the animals, burn some incense in the area. Something to give a bit of your energy to the world around you. And that's it! You don't want to make requests right away. Instead, you want to establish a foundation so that the spirits come to know you.
Now, after you've established a foundation, you may notice that things start to get better for you. Your local allies will start to protect you, warn you of danger, and even influence events to bring you favor. And that may be as far as you ever go. You give them gifts, they give you gifts. However, if you need to, you can address them directly and ask for favors. Again, this doesn't have to be complicated, just a simple gift, along with your request, and if they fulfill it, give them an offering of thanks. Magick doesn't have to be complicated. You can do it in your own backyard, and be better than a lot of magicians who only work from books! Give it a shot, and see how things improve.
Thank You Papa, I didn't realize it till now but I really needed to hear this.
